About United Way 2-1-1United Way 2-1-1's mission is to enhance the lives of people in our region by providing timely, accurate and caring community resource information and referral to community members and non-profit organizations. Our goal is to help people make connections: to services they need, to volunteer opportunities, and to places they can donate goods, services, and financial support. Our Name Originally United Way 2-1-1 was ServiceNet. It began as a program of the Women's Center of Larimer County in September 1996. By early 1999 we had incorporated as FirstCall ServiceNet of Larimer County, received 501© (3) status from the IRS and had begun a new Volunteer Center program. We then became known as FirstCall 2-1-1. In 2006, we merged with United Way to become United Way 2-1-1.
Disaster Response Since the Fort Collins flood of 1997 we became involved in disaster response throughout the county. We work with emergency management offices and other responders such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army to provide information about recovery services and spontaneous volunteer coordination during emergencies.
United Way 2-1-1 Region 3 In April, 2003 we became one of four 2-1-1 pilot sites in Colorado. In September, 2004, we added Routt and Moffat Counties to our service area. Soon to follow were Rio Blanco, Grand and Jackson Counties. Together, these Counties are known as 2-1-1 Region 3. Callers can now access our services simply by dialing 2-1-1. United Way 2-1-1 has become an integral program in our region, assisting in interagency networking, publicizing volunteer activities and connecting thousands of individuals and families with the excellent health and human services that exist to assist them.
