April 2009 Board Bank Training

The next Board Bank training will be on Tuesday, April 7 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Good Samaritan Village - Fort Collins located at 508 West Trilby Road.

All interested volunteers looking to serve on a board are encouraged to attend.  The cost of the training is $20 and includes an overview of the expectations and general policies of serving on a Board of Directors, provides the volunteer with a book on the basic responsibilities of a board member, and allows the volunteer to learn more about possible nonprofits to be paired with.  Space is limited.  To register for the training please complete and return the Board Bank Candidate Application.  Download the Board Bank Candidate Application by CLICKING HERE.

What is the Board Bank?
United Way of Larimer County’s Volunteer Center recruits and trains community professionals to serve as board and committee members. The Board Bank program matches volunteers’ interests with a variety of board opportunities and assists in matching volunteers with the needs of local nonprofits. Currently, there are more than 40 nonprofits in Larimer County that need skilled, passionate and enthusiastic volunteers to serve on their boards.

How does the Board Bank work?
1. Nonprofits and volunteers submit their applications to participate in the program.
2. Volunteers attend a training session to learn more about expectations and responsibilities of serving on a board.
3. Volunteers select the nonprofits they are interested in serving on.
4. Nonprofits will then contact the volunteers to schedule interviews.

For Volunteers
For individuals interested in volunteering, board membership is an opportunity to connect your goals and aspirations to nonprofit organizations, making an impact on our community’s most pressing needs. Serving as a board member not only offers the opportunity to use your unique talents to be more effective but also provides an environment for professional development, building leadership skills and personal and professional networking.

As a Board Bank candidate you will receive:
• A comprehensive two-hour training (sessions are held quarterly throughout the year)
• An understanding of the basic responsibilities and expectations of nonprofit boards
• Connections to nonprofit agencies with board vacancies
• Information about other board development classes
• A book outlining the basic responsibilities of board members

For Nonprofits
Our Volunteer Center recognizes that board leadership is critical for the success of nonprofit organizations. We serve Larimer County agencies who want to increase their board capacity. Through our Board Bank program we offer assistance in recruiting and training volunteers for positions on board of directors and committees, free of charge.

As a Board Bank agency member you will receive:
• Exposure to a skilled, interested, and diverse selection of candidates
• Trained community volunteers
• Reduced time and resources spent on recruiting qualified board members
• Improved board and agency efficiency in filling leadership needs
