WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Session I:
Turning Nonprofits into Social Media Whiz Kids— Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, where do you start? How does all this social media stuff fit into the nonprofit promotional and marketing strategy? Collecting “friends” doesn't necessarily equal donors and supporters. It takes a smart social media marketing plan to ensure you are getting the most bang for your social networking buck, raising awareness AND money for your nonprofit. Millions of users engage in online activities everyday, and they are all interconnected. How will you succeed in this social world?
Presenter: Dawn Putney, Toolbox Creative

Strategic Planning and Adaptive Thinking for Nonprofit Organizations— A key component of nonprofit organizational effectiveness is having articulated goals and a plan to reach them. Come to this session to learn about why and how to develop a strategic plan for your organization, starting with an organizational assessment and ending with an implementation plan. This session will also include a discussion about how to integrate strategic and adaptive thinking in your organization’s decision-making processes. You will leave this session with a set of tools that can help your organization develop and successfully implement a basic strategic plan for your organization.
Presenter: Sarah Fischler, Community Resource Center
Lunch Keynote:
Auditing Your Technology Infrastructure with 3 Simple Questions:
Most nonprofits don't have any kind of dedicated, professionally trained IT staff so while your "computer responsible person" will do their level best to make sure your network is running and that all your staff have access to the Internet - how do you really know if what you have is in good shape? Knowing the answer can ease your mind and help you avert disaster. This session will provide simple worksheets and checklists around 3 key things you should always know about your technology infrastructure.
Presenter:
Joyce Raby
Session II:
Program Evaluation without Headaches— Are funders asking you about the outcomes of your programs? Do you need more information to make good program decisions? This workshop will help! Evaluations are a fact of life for nonprofit leaders. They are sometimes seen as a painful and confusing exercise conducted to satisfy funders, but they can be a powerful source of information for guiding program improvements. The workshop introduces you to the evaluation planning process, including selecting stakeholders, developing evaluation questions, choosing the most appropriate data collection methods and reporting results for diverse evaluation audiences. This seminar will prepare you to be a better consumer and initiator of program evaluations.
Presenter: Randi Nelson, JVA Consulting

This will be a hands-on, interactive workshop, so come ready to share your success stories and brainstorm for new ideas! Take-away materials and “how to” pamphlets will be available as well. This workshop will help every participant draft a thumbnail long-term funding plan and talk about funding vehicles for the long haul, including: Endowment Funds, Planned Giving, Annual Campaigns, Individual Donor Cultivation, Business Sponsorships, Earned Revenue Sources
